Titulo : Audio CD - SECOND LOOK - Chris Whiteley
UPC/EAN : 773958101128

Original and traditional jazz and blues that swings. For over 25 years Chris Whiteley has been performing, writing, and recording roots music as a multi-instrumentalist and as a vocalist. On Second Look, Chris, on trumpet, harmonica, and vocals, and his son Dan Whiteley take a tasteful swing through some wonderful blues and jazz tunes. Eight Chris Whiteley originals, including When Push Comes to Love, Change Your Point of View, and Second Look, hold their own next to standards like Mean to Me, Cherry Red, and A Smooth One. For variety, Chris makes a side trip into gospel with The Light Descends From Heaven, and concludes with a moody original instrumental, Total Eclipse. Chris is joined by a talented group of Toronto musicians, including Maureen Brown, Bucky Berger, Terry Wilkins, Victor Bateman, Allan Scott, John Sheard, Paul Hendon, Bryan Livett, and Ken Whiteley. Review Is it jazz? Is it blues? Take a second look at the cover and youll find that its trumpet-toting Chris Whiteley who has wrapped up both of these genres... The 1994 Juno Award nominee, along with several other well-respected musicians, perform a first-rate mix of tunes on this release. Whiteley has included seven originals and treats us to his talents on trumpet, harmonica, guitar and vocals as well. -- The Jazz Report Winter 1995The Whiteley Brothers have played a major role in the advancement, understanding and preservation of blues in North America. This time up, brother Chris takes the spotlight with his son Dan on lead and slide guitars. Ken however, establishes hi music signature on the keys and does a little vocal background and accordion work. The vocal charm however is the sole working of Chris, who has developed a swing n blues idiom over almost three decades that is uniquely his. He breezes through the lyrics with a quiet confidence; catching up, wandering to the left and to the right with a spark of sassiness that adds to the charm of the message. Whiteley serves up a bountiful mix of original material, peppered with just the right amount of classic swing and blues outings. The title track, Total Eclipse, and Another Day Without You are, to say the least, very impressive Whiteley (Chris) pennings. Reinhardts Swing 42, Goodmans A Smooth One, and Ahlert/Turks Mean To Me make for tender intrusions into Whiteleys song world. Chris is exceptional on trumpet, harmonica and guitar. Special kudos should go to the session musicians: Maureen Brown and Bucky Berger (drums); Terry Wilkins (electric bass); Victor Bateman (upright bass); Allan Scott (piano); Paul Hendon (clarinet); Bryan Livett (trombone); and John Sheard on piano on Another Day Without You. -- RPM Chart Weekly, August 15, 1994Trumpeter/composer Chris Whiteley takes a jazzy, swing-style approach to the blues that goes down oh so easy. His friendly, no-frills vocals suit his lyrics, which are fun and sensitive, and his stalwart musical companions weigh in with some colourful performances. -- Words & Music, November 1994 From the Label See also Chris Whiteley, Blues Party; The Whiteley Brothers Bluesology and Sixteen Shades of Blue. About the Artist For over 25 years Chris Whiteley has been performing, writing, and recording blues, swing, and roots music, both as a multi-instrumentalist (trumpet, harmonica, guitar, and pedal steel) and as a vocalist... ...He has been nominated for five Juno Awards, including nominations for Best Blues Album for The Whiteley Brothers Bluesology and Sixteen Shades of Blue. Bluesology was also named Blues Album of the Year at the 1993 Jazz Report Awards.
