With a voice that could be characterized as both rough and emotive, recently deceased R&B/blues vocalist Eddie Holloway had a long and fruitful, critically-acclaimed solo career that was sadly overlooked by the masses. Here he leads his group The Soul Pleasers through two now remastered tracks, the top of the line “I Found A Love” and the Brother James-influenced “Baby Dont Cry.” The cuts were originally recorded and released on 45 by the obscure Living Legend label in 1966. “Baby Don’t Cry” was covered a couple years later in a funkier guise by The Third Guitar (Snoopy Dean) with Eddie guesting on vocals. Even though that version became the more well-known of the two, the original remains the definitive one among fans of Holloway’s gritty body of work.
