In the late 40s and early 50s, the Cuban bandleader Luis Santi was a top attraction in the Havana nightclubs, appeared regularly on Cuban television and was a featured artist on Cuban radio station CMQ in Havana throughout the 50s. His appeal was not limited to the island of Cuba, Luis Santis music soon spread to Mexico, South America and Europe. Like so many Cuban musicians of his time, he fled to America shortly after the 1959 embargo. One of the first Cuban expatriates to record in the U.S, Santi made some phenomenal recordings in Miami enlisting the talents of other recent expatriate Cuban master musicians such as the famed percussionist Carlos Patato Valdes and trumpeter Alejandro El Negro Vivar. Recorded in the mid-70s, El Bigote became one of his most popular albums. Finally available in the digital domain - all selections have been newly remastered.
