William Shakespeares play Othello is a tragedy and tells the story of two main characters: Othello, a moorish army commander in the Venetian military, and of his unfaithful ensign, Iago. Shakespeare describes in Othello the topics of betrayal, revenge, racism, repentance, jealousy, and, of course, love. The play ends with the death of Othellos wife Desdemona and with the suicide of Othello himself. It is believed that the play has been written in 1603 or 1604.
