To read these memoirs is to study Cuban history from a primary source.About the AuthorOrestes Ferrara Marina (1876-1972) was born in Naples, Italy. From a very young age he sympathized and embraced the Cuban struggle for independence being organized by Jose Marti and left for Cuba where he fought alongside Maximo Gomez. He was one of the most important political and literary figures during the years of the Cuban Republic and in 1940 was elected as a delegate to the constitutional convention. He died in exile.
