Reseña:
Dr. Jekyll continued to be repressed because he likes living his lifestyle as a doctor. Also, society at the time was very strict on how people should live and act. Eventually, the evil suppressed the good and Dr. Jekyll enjoyed being Mr. Hyde more than himself and it became easier to be evil.
THE STRANGE CASE OF DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE
Having read Dr. Jekyll's version of events (assuming we believe him), how much can we assign him? Should we blame his oppressive society or his lack of moral character?
If Dr. Jekyll finds pleasure in being evil, why doesn't he just stop being so repressed, forget about the whole respectable doctor persona and go lead a criminal life? How would the story change if Mr, Hyde had been allowed to take over?
Dr. Jekyll is to be partly blamed for his actions. His oppressive society is also to blame for his lack of moral character. Dr. Jekyll takes part of the blame because he experimented with evil and knew it was wrong. He did terrible things. He fought the moral battle till the end where he stated, "Will Hyde die upon the scaffold? Or will he find courage to release himself at the last moment?" (pg 130). Society also made him act a certain way because of what was accepted in that time.
